Tomorrow I board a 9 hour flight to the States so I probably won’t be blogging much, if at all for a while. There’s something about getting on a flight by yourself for 9 hours that is incredibly draining while being the most terrifying / exciting thing ever. I felt this way last time, and I’m so happy that I have people to meet me at the other side.

This is our first ever digital only magazine, and we’ve really tried to make it special. Not only have we doubled the amount of content you would normally see, but we’ve come up with some great new features for you to check out every month.

In this issue we have the wonderful 3OH!3 gracing our cover, and have spared no expense in giving you a bunch of new artists to check out. We have interviews with the likes of Portugal. The Man, Savoir Adore, Lower Lands, NK and Robbie Boyd along with a range of features on some of the best artists around.

To most people on Instagram, where this is originally posted, it will be drowned in the million other “selfie” photos on people’s newsfeeds. Some people may think I’m vain for taking this photograph, others won’t have an opinion, or if they do they won’t share it.

The point of this photo though, was so I could prove a point to myself. I’m 20, day in and day out I get told how I look so much younger. While I’m not complaining at that, people have commented in the past that if I “made more effort” or “put on more makeup”, then maybe, just MAYBE I would pass for 18. I always find this rude, partly because I don’t see why I should have to make people think I’m a certain age. I know how old I am, so why isn’t that enough for everyone else?

I don’t wear a lot of makeup, foundation and mascara is usually all I wear. I have nothing against those who wear more, but my skin is very sensitive and I usually break out in spots if I put too much foundation on, and then it turns into a cycle of me trying to cover up the spots that were brought out in the first place because of the makeup. My skin has gotten better lately, because I forced myself to stick to a skin routine, but I’m not going to smear my face in products in the hope that I age a few years.

In the above photo, I’m wearing twice the coating of foundation I usually wear. The same amount of mascara, but I’m wearing eyeliner and lipstick (overly bold shade of red but the first I could find). In the above photo, I don’t look any older, I look just the same. What may be worse, is I may look like I’ve tried too hard. The amount of makeup on my face doesn’t define my age. I have a baby face, I’m fine with that, and you really should be too.

I don’t really know where I’m going with this. I sometimes just get sick of people thinking I look so young because of how I decide to do my makeup or lack of. That’s not the case, and however I choose to do it is up to me. So if you think I look anaemic one day, or like I haven’t slept for five weeks, you can keep those comments to yourself, thanks. You should wear what makes you feel comfortable, and don’t take shit from anyone else.
